Bow tuning & repair in Morgantown, WV

What it is

Everything between “this bow exists” and “this bow shoots where I look, every time.” In practice that is five overlapping jobs, and most bows that come to the bench need some combination rather than just one:

• Bow setup — draw length and weight set to your measurements, rest, sight, stabiliser, peep and D-loop installed and aligned.
• Paper tuning — shooting through paper to see exactly what the arrow does as it leaves the string, and reading the tear to find the cause.
• Chronograph testing — measuring your real arrow speed out of your real bow, so sight tapes and pin gaps are built on a true number.
• Full tuning — cam timing and synchronisation, centre shot, tiller, nock height and rest micro-adjustment, verified against paper and against groups.
• String & cable replacement — new strings and cables installed and served, peep and D-loop reset, and the bow re-tuned afterward.

Who it’s for

Anyone with a new bow, bought here or elsewhere. A bow off the rack is not a bow that fits you, and the difference between a fitted setup and an unfitted one is not subtle.

Anyone whose groups have quietly opened up. This is the most common reason people walk in, and the cause is very often mechanical rather than a fault in the shooter — a serving that has moved, cams a hair out of time, a rest that has drifted, or a string that has done its stretching.

Hunters heading into season. If your broadheads and field points are not hitting the same place, that is a tuning problem, and it is worth solving in September rather than discovering it from a treestand.

Anyone who has changed something — new arrows, a different rest, a poundage change, a new release. Every one of those invalidates part of the previous tune.

What to expect

Bring the bow and the arrows you actually shoot with it. That second part matters more than people expect: an arrow's spine, length and point weight are part of the tune, and tuning against the wrong arrows produces a bow that is tuned for somebody else.

Simple adjustments are often done while you wait. Anything needing the press, new strings or a full retune is usually better left with us, since it is not a job to rush. We quote when we see the bow, because “it needs a tune” can honestly mean twenty minutes or most of an afternoon, and we would rather tell you the real number than a hopeful one.

Call before you drive out if you need it back by a specific day. In the weeks either side of opening day the bench is at its busiest.

The bench and the 50-yard indoor range are in the same building, which is the thing that actually matters. A bow is not tuned because the paper tear looks right; it is tuned when it groups.
